Connections, they are everywhere. In many different forms, with people, your surroundings and even yourself.
These connections are some of the most important things we lack in our modern world, in spite of the efforts of social media.
Connect with people
We all crave connections with others. We need them to survive, and so often we go about these connections the wrong way.
Real connections don’t occur over the internet, they happen in person, face to face. We get so caught up with messaging our friends, following them on Instagram and making sure we know what they are doing all the time, that we actually lose the real connection.
What matters most, are the memories we make together, the laughs we share and the time spent in each other's company. These things can’t be done by posting a text on our mobile device. But in real life, in the company of someone we respect and love, that connection can make a real positive outcome.
I know that when someone takes time out of their day to hang out with me, it means so much more than if they had just messaged me. Sending a text takes a minute, but clearing our schedule to see someone, shows that we are willing to sacrifice time for them. It demonstrates that this person is important to us.
It shows that we care.
Connect with your surroundings
So many people think this is weird, that it’s a strange concept to ‘connect’ with where we are now. But it really isn’t. It’s one of those things that improves our mood and brings a sense of peace.
We are subconsciously programmed into always doing something, never really stopping. This constant go, go, go mindset, can become detrimental to our health and wellbeing and lead to burn out and stress.
But, when we stop for a minute, take in our surroundings, listen to the sounds of creation, open our lives to the beauty of God’s landscape, it calms the soul, and helps break the need of always needing to do something.
‘I don’t have time’ and ‘It takes too much effort’ are the common responses people have to this idea. And yes, you may be really busy, but this connection can be made anywhere, even if it is just for a minute. Like when you're waiting in line for your coffee, or driving to work. We can still be open to this powerful practice, without having to set aside specific times.
Connect with yourself
Connecting with ourselves is something we often overlook, and is one of our most important connections.
Finding time to sit, and write out our thoughts, to dream dreams and goals and visions. It helps us so much in self discovery. Some may call it meditation, and it is an essential part of growing and moving forward in life.
We don’t know it, but there is so much holding us back, absorbing our energy and stopping us from reaching our full potential. Reflecting and just being in the presence of our Creator, helps us to find and stop these blockages, so we can actively work to fix/remove these immobilising parasites.
Conclusion
So when was the last time you hung out with a friend? Listened to birds sing, or hear the wind in the trees, or smell flowers, or look into a baby’s eyes? Or just sat and had a conversation with yourself? When these things start to become a habit, peace in our souls, will become so much more like the way our Creator designed our lives to be.
